Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated with great religious fervour and enthusiasm across the region today.
Exchange of hugs and special prayers marked the celebration of Eid at the major mosques of the city here and main Eidgah ground in the winter capital city. All the religious places of the Muslims/mosques were highly decorated and people thronged in large number to offer special prayers since early morning.
The main congregation was held at Eidgah located near Residency Road, Jammu where thousands of people, accompanied by children, offered Eid Namaz and exchanged Eid greetings.
On the occasion, Imam of the Masjid prayed for peace and harmony in the State. As the ground was wet due to rain during morning hours, the rush of Namazis was little thin this year at this place.
Elaborate arrangements were made by the district administration for smooth celebrations of Eid festival across the district. Additional security men had been deployed at some sensitive city areas and crossings.
Markets remained busy and full of enthusiasm, while bakery and meat shops witnessed huge rush of visitors. At many places in the market `sacrificial animals’ were also seen in herds where people were making purchases. The children attired in colourful traditional dresses were found seeking ‘Eidi’ from the relatives.
Shia Muslims of Jammu offered Eid Namaz at Karbala complex, Wazarat Road here today. Maulana Syed Ali Badshah Naqvi, Imam Jumma Imamia Majid lead the Namaz.
In his address, Maulana deliberated upon the teachings of Prophet and importance Eid-ul-Azha. He said this Eid is celebrated as day of sacrifice. He also prayed for peace and communal harmony in the country and the State.
President Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu Syed Amanat Ali Shah appealed to the people of all the religions to maintain peace and communal harmony and also spread the message of peace.
Eid-ul-Azha was also celebrated across the Kargil district with full religious fervour and enthusiasm.
Eid prayers were offered by huge congregations everywhere, biggest of which was seen at Jama Masjid Kargil, Islamia School, Eidgah and Masjid Noorbakshia where thousands of Muslims offered special Eid prayers.
The prayers programme was organised by Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust, Islamia School and Jammat -e -Ahle Sunnat Kargil, Anjuman Noorbakshia.
In Sankoo, Suru, Sharogole, Wakha, Drass and Zanaskar big gatherings were seen in different mosques.
During the prayers sermons were delivered in which Imams have offered special prayer for the peace in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Bahrain, Myanmar and other parts of Islamic countries.
During the sermons in mosques Imams appealed for the peace and prosperity among Muslims.
Eid -ul-Zuha was celebrated with full fervour and zeal by the Army, today. The festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm wherein, troops from all communities greeted locals with enthusiasm and festive fervours. People from all segments of society met their brothers in uniform and happily greeted and celebrated the day on the pious occasion.
The Army at various places had organised lunch and refreshments for the locals. Speaking on the occasion, Moulvis, elders and other prominent people of the towns and locals lauded the initiatives and expressed hope that such initiatives by the Army will give a fillip to social harmony in the region.
At Poonch, massive gathering was witnessed at main Eidgah where Muslims offered special prayers despite drizzle. The ground was also wet due to over night rain. Huge rush of devotees was also observed at the main mosque at Poonch and other places like Surankote, Mandi and Mendhar.
Reports of Eid celebrations were also received from other parts of the region, including Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Bhaderwah,Ramban, Mahore, Udhampur, Kathua, Bani, Billawar, Reasi and parts of Samba.
