Following Akshay Kumar's official confirmation on his Twitter page regarding the release date of his upcoming film, R. Balki-directed social drama, Padman as 25 January, 2018, numerous reports have started floating around suggesting that Rajinikanth - Shankar's mega-budget sci-fi action thriller 2.0 will be postponed to April 2018 due to a post-production delay.
There has also been some conjecture about Rajinikanth's Kaala directed by Kabali filmmaker Pa. Ranjith, which was earlier reported to see release in April 2018, being pulled for earlier release, to January because of the postponement of 2.0.

The speculation of 2.0's release date as 13 April, 2018 has set off a ripple effect in Tamil and Telugu film industries since Mahesh Babu's Bharat Ane Nenu, and Allu Arjun's Naa Peru Surya have confirmed 27 April as the release date recently.
When we got in touch with a bankable source from Lyca Productions, the makers of 2.0, they dismissed the reports as baseless rumours.
"As of now, we are entirely on track for 25 January, 2018 release as informed earlier. The CG work is currently underway in eleven countries, and our VFX teams are working round the clock to meet the deadline," said the source.
Akshay Kumar is believed to have posted the release date of Padman as 26 January, 2018 just to seal the Republic Day holiday weekend before others cash in if 2.0 misses the target. Lyca Productions and Akshay Kumar have arrived at a mutual consensus now to not impeded the release of 2.0 if it makes proper headway to hit screens on January 25th, 2018.
Since 2.0 is touted to be Asia's costliest 'natively acquired 3D' film, the makers would go all out to ensure a January release since the highly-anticipated Hollywood film The New Mutants, the eleventh instalment in Marvel's most-celebrated X-Men series, will reserve a significant number of 3D screens in the USA in advance.
The spectacular audio launch held in Dubai two days back has turned the spotlight on 2.0, which is made at a massive budget of Rs. 400 crores. The two songs released from the album have received rave reviews from everyone. The third song penned by late lyricist Na. Muthukumar will be released next month. Rahman has also said that the final OST will feature a host of bit tracks and theme scores.
The makers are planning to release the teaser of the film at a grand event in Hyderabad, on 22 November, at the Shilpakala Vedika auditorium.
The trailer will be released in Chennai in December, as announced earlier. As of now, the visual effects and animatronics-related post-production work are going at breakneck speed in various countries. Legacy Effects, Tau Films, Quantum FX, and Double Negative are working in unison with national award-winning VFX-supervisor Srinivas Mohan to complete everything on time. Editor Anthony has already revealed that the film's running time will be around two hours and twenty minutes, making it the shortest film of director Shankar.
Amazon Prime has already acquired the digital rights to the film for a whopping undisclosed sum.
The official merchandise of the film will be available on the website of e-commerce giant Amazon soon for Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar fans.
Directed by Shankar, 2.0 has Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar in prominent roles. Hollywood stunt choreographer Kenny Bates, known for his breathtaking stunt-work in 'Transformers' franchise, has worked on the film along with Stunt Silva. Nirav Shah has handled the cinematography of the movie.
