A delegation of research scholars and students of Jammu University under the banner of ‘YUVA’ (Youth and Vivekananda) today called on Vice Chancellor Prof R D Sharma and submitted him a memorandum demanding construction of `wall of heroes’ in the campus that will depict the portraits of all the 21 Paramveer Chakra recipients.
To instill the feeling of patriotism among the students and to express the gratitude towards the most difficult services rendered by armed forces personals, the Ministry of Human Resource Development recently launched Vidya Veerta Abhiyan (Students for Soldiers campaign) under which ‘a wall of heroes/valour’ of 15 to 20 feet in size will be built/dedicated in universities across the country that will depict the portraits of all the 21 Paramveer Chakra recipients.
The delegation submitted that the University of Jammu, which is situated in the State of J&K, where the brave soldiers of the nation are serving under tremendous unfavourable situations and many even sacrificing their lives daily to uphold and protect the unity and integrity of the nation, deserve to be the one among firsts to take initiative and construct/dedicate the ‘wall of heroes/valour’ as a tribute to the supreme devotion, service and sacrifice made by our brave soldiers.
Anil Acharya, Coordinator of YUVA group, said that the life history of Param Vir Chakra (PVC) winners is a source of inspiration for youth. These brave sons of nation deserve to be remembered and revered by all and the ‘wall of heroes’ will be a tribute to them. Since the Wall of Heroes will be built on contributory funding by students and teachers on voluntary basis, the members of YUVA group are voluntarily ready to dedicate their services for collecting fund/donation for the construction of this wall in the campus premises, he added.
The Vice Chancellor, while lauding the YUVA members for taking up such issues, assured them that the `wall of heroes’ will soon be constructed in the university campus.
The delegation of research scholars and students, that met with the Vice Chancellor, included Anil Acharya, Ajay Shree Sambyal, Kuljeet Singh, Som Raj, Sambhu Nath and Surinder Sharma.
