Restrictions have been imposed in south Kashmir district of Shopian, where a youth was killed, when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators trying to disrupt the anti-militancy operation.
However, officials said that restrictions under Section 144 CrPC have been imposed in some areas since early this morning as a precautionary measure to prevent any protests and maintain peace. Meanwhile, life remained paralysed in restriction-free areas in the district due to spontaneous strike in protest against the civilian's death.

Hundreds of security forces and state police personnel, wearing bullet proof jackets and holding automatic weapons, had been deployed in the main Shopian town and nearby areas to prevent any demonstration and violence. People alleged that they were not being allowed to move out of their houses. Meanwhile, shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in restriction- free areas of the district, last evening. Authorities have already announced closure of all educational institutions in the district.

Work in government offices and banks was also paralysed due to the strike and restrictions.
