Vice president of ruling People’s Democratic Party Sartaj Madani today said Hill districts and constituencies have always been the main focus of Developmental agenda of the party.
“As and when the party got a direct role, possible Government resources were fully utilized for their empowerment,” Madni said addressing a public meeting at Mendhar.
Referring to various decisions taken by Mufti Muhammad Syed and Mehbboba Mufti as Chief Minister, he said: “PDP-led Governments will continue to work for raising the stock of underdeveloped people of the state, particularly those suffering on account of difficult geographical placement and poor social and economic conditions.”
“It was Mufti Muhammad Syed who catapulted Kargil and Leh Districts to the position of Hill Development Councils and took various administrative and economic measures to change the fate of Hill areas of Jammu and Kashmir. It goes to the credit of Mehbooba Mufti that she in right earnest raised a separate Tribal Ministry with an appropriate fund-management and is equally devoted to getting in focus Paharis and other linguistic sections to become the common beneficiaries of progress and development,” he said.
Madni said opening of routes like Poonch-Rawlakote and Uri and concern for border belts for their “peaceful existence bear evidence of how PDP explores all avenues for upliftment and protection of isolated and deprived areas.”

“Mughal Road is another leap forward in ameliorating the lot of poor and deserving , which goes a long way in building infra-structure and facilitating movement. PDP Government is keen in getting electricity , roads , water supply and health care facilities to Mendhar which has hitherto lagged behind in this,” he said.
He said the area is well-covered by Rural Development schemes and Food and Supplies Ministry is playing key role in getting the essential commodities to people at their door step. “ PDP-led Government has shown adequate concern for the woes of border belts arising out of uncertainty and border skirmishes and Indo-Pak friendship occupies important place in our agenda, particularly to give peace to people and space for comfortable living,” he said.
Madni expressed concern for interruption in mutual trade and exchange with people across saying “Mehbooba Mufti is feeling the pain of disconnect and resultant inconvenience to people of the truncated state. PDP’s role and gains accrued from opening of routes cannot be allowed to be subverted. More routes will have to be opened to get the people desired relief, he added.
