Four Days Sports Festival under CAP (Civic Action Plan) starts at Rajouri

A four days sports festival began here today in District Police Lines Rajouri. The festival is being organized by the district police under Civic Action Plan, an initiative of J&K Police Department for providing a platform to the youth of the state to achieve excellence in sports field.

Present on the occasion were MLA Rajouri Adv. Qammar Chowdhary, ADC A.S. Chib, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Deepak Kumar Slathia, SSP Yougal Manhas, ASP Mohd Yousuf, Dy.SP Shazia Mir, Dy. SP Dr. Imtiaz Chowdhary, Dy. SP Jaswant Singh and DYS & S officer Sawarn Singh. The first day of the event witnessed a huge participation of youth, especially from government and private educational instituitions.

While speaking on the occasion, MLA Rajouri congratulated the police authorities for organizing such sports festivals which will go a long way in inculcating the sports culture in the youth of the district. He also called upon the youth to actively participate in various categories of sports during the festival so that they get prepared for participation in state and national level sport events.

Terming the sports as the bedrock for mental and physical health, Mr. Deepak Slathia, DIG Rajouri-Poonch said the sports create camaraderie among the youth and shape physique of youngsters. It promotes mental development by creating high standards of discipline and maintaining physical fitness.

“In the festival, competition will be organized in a myriad of indoor and outdoor games like cricket, volleyball, kabbadi, table tennis, badminton, kho kho, tug of war, football besides a number of athletic activities and both boys and girls under nineteen years of age can participate in the events,” informed Yougal Manhas, SSP Rajouri.

He added that youth in an adolescent stage has great tendency of getting caught in drug addiction, stress and other social deviance. Motivating them to participate in sports can discourage these social deviances as sports build confidence and give positive energy to the youth to keep these activities at bay.
