The next international conference of the International Association for Ladakh Studies (IALS) scheduled on 2019 will be held at the Centre Institute for Buddhists Studies (CIBS) in the month of September. The conference will be held for three consecutive days for presentation of papers followed by a field trip on the fourth day. This was decided in a meeting of the IALS held under the chairmanship of President IALS Dr Sonam Wangchok on Thursday at CIBS.
Secretary Konchok Paldan, Editor Sunetro Ghosal, Assistant Editor Rigzin Chosdon, Advisory members Amjad Ali, Quentin Devers, Thupstan Nurboo and Tsewang Rigzin were also present. While from CIBS Additional Administrative Officer Tashi Ram, Research Officer Khenpo Konchok Rigzin, lecturers and research scholars also attended the meeting.
It was decided that the 19th IALS conference will be organised by IALS in collaboration with CIBS. CIBS has agreed to provide the venue, Nagarjuna auditorium, conference halls, 10 guest rooms with double bed and man power if required during the conference.
A coordination committee was formed to coordinate between two institutions and to proceed for applying for funding.
IALS officials Rigzin Chodon, Sunetro Ghosal and Konchok Paldan will be members of the committee while from CIBS members in the Coordination Committee include lecturer Tsering Choldan, Research Scholar Nima Tashi and Research Officer Khenpo Konchok Rigzin. To ensure smooth conduct of the international conference, Director CIBS Prof Konchok Wangdu and President IALS, Dr Sonam Wangchok will oversee the progress with the overall arrangement of the proposed conference.
Considering CIBS’s exams and other engagements, several other events in Ladakh and Tibet Studies conference in July, the meeting tentatively fixed conference dates for second weekend of September in 2019.
