The civil and police administration Kishtwar on Monday conducted anti-encroachment drive to clear footpaths and roads. During the drive, large number of illegal structures like Khokhas, Rehris, Pharis and sheds were removed.
The officials of Municipal Committee, a couple of days before had serve notices to owners of aforesaid structures to voluntarily remove the encroachments. This was followed by detailed drum beating on Sunday. Despite these legal measures, the encroachers remained reluctant and refused to vacate the encroached spaces.
The district administration subsequently took a strong notice of encroachments and put in action the whole machinery. The Municipal Committee officials led by its Executive Officer Sanjay Sharma arranged heavy machinery to remove the encroachments. The team of municipal committee was given protection by a large posse of police led by Dy SP Headquarters Nihar Ranjan and SHO police station Kishtwar Inspector Sameer Jeelani.
The drive started from Malipeth and continued upto New DC Office Complex. Besides, encroachments at Bonsasthan, Hidyal Chowk, Old Bus stand and Heresthan were also removed. A total 31 Khokhas and 7 permanent sheds were removed besides large of number of Rehris and Pharis were seized.
While speaking to the local media, SSP Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary, said footpaths were badly encroached leading to inconvenience to the general public especially elders, women, school children and commuters. He said that encroachment of any public place shall not be tolerated at any cost. He said that every possible step shall be taken to remove all encroachments in the town keeping in view the public interest. He also stated that videography of such spots which have been made encroachment free has been done and if any encroachment is repeated subsequently strict action would be taken against the culprits.
The district Development Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana when contacted said that the district administration has taken a strong view of the encroachments and has issued necessary orders in this regard.
