The final round of the Eighth Annual Inter State Northern Zone Declamation Contest, 2018 for Silver Rolling Trophy instituted by Governor, N.N Vohra was held at Government PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
The programme was organised on topic ‘Is Demonetisation a Success or Failure’ by the Higher Education Department.
On the occasion, Governor N.N Vohra was the Chief Guest whereas First Lady, Usha Vohra was the Guest of Honour in the valedictory session. Prof Anju Bhasin, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu presided over the session.
The aim of instituting the Silver Rolling Trophy is to provide the students a vibrant platform for mutual exchange of ideas, beliefs, cultures and diverse views on contemporary issues and challenges that confront our society in present time.
While addressing the audience, the Governor complemented the college for successfully holding the mega event year after year and also lauded the participants for their relevant deliberations focusing upon the positive and negative aspects of the concerned topic with zeal and enthusiasm.
He urged upon all the stakeholders to channelise the energy of the youth in a constructive manner so that ethical values of nationhood and statehood should not be compromised.
A total of 46 participants hailing from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Delhi, Punjab and Chandigarh (U.T) participated in the contest. The team comprising Mohammad Hashim and Prabhat Kumar of Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi won the Silver Rolling Trophy whereas the Runners up trophy was clinched by the team comprising Kaneez Fatima of Government PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and Sangpriya of Government College for Women Parade, Jammu .
In the individual category, the first prize with a cheque of Rs 11,000 was won by Mohammad Hashim of Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, second and third prizes with a cheque of Rs 7,500 and Rs 5,000 were bagged by Sangpriya of Government College for Women Parade, Jammu and Mohammad Atif Yamin of Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi respectively.
The first, second and third consolation prizes carrying a cheque of Rs 2,500 each were given to Sonali Sain Seth of Government P.G. College Seema, Shimla, Prabhat Kumar of Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi and Kaneez Fatima of Government P.G College for Women Gandhi Nagar, Jammu respectively.
Earlier, in the inaugural session the Chief Guest, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Education and Finance, declared the contest open.
Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department was the Guest of Honour and Prof. Z.A Chatt, Director Colleges presided over the function.
Dr. Kaushal Smotra, Principal of the College presented the welcome address wherein she gave a detailed account of the Declamation Contest.
The participants were adjudged by a team of Jury members comprising Dr Deepshikha Kotwal, Head, Students of Languages, Central University of Jammu, Prof. Neetu Andotra, Head, Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, Dr. Pavitra Kumar Jena, Director, School of Economics, SMVDU Katra, Prof. N.R Sharma, Former Dean and Head, P.G. Department of Education, University of Jammu and S.C Sharma, former General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, Jammu.
The observers to the event were Prof. Jitender Khajuria, Registrar, Cluster University of Jammu and Prof. Yasmeen Ashai, Nodal Principal, Kashmir Division.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof Satinder Singh, Nodal Principal, Jammu Division.
