BIS conducts raid against misuse of ‘ISI’ mark

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on Wednesday conducted a raid against misuse of ISI mark against the sale of spurious products in the market.
A team of officials from BIS Jammu conducted a raid at M/s Westing House Industries, Birpur Industrial Complex, Bari Brahmana and seized ISI marked Storage Electric Water Heater (Geyser) and pumps – regenerative for clear, cold water (Monoblock Pump) which was being manufactured and packed with White House Brand, Essel Brand without a valid licence.
The aforesaid unit was not having valid BIS Licence to use ISI mark on Storage Electric Water Heater (Geyser) and pumps.
The officials booked the aforesaid firm under the Bureau of Indian Standard Act, 2016.
“The offence is punishable with imprisonment up to one year or a fine not less than one lakh or both as per BIS Act 2016. It has been observed many times that fake ISI marked products are being manufactured and sold to common consumers for huge profit. Therefore, people should ascertain the genuineness of ISI Mark on the product before purchase by visiting BIS website,” the BIS officials said.
They requested the general public that in case they come across any instance of misuse of ISI Mark on any product, the same may be informed to the Head, Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office, Lane No 4 Sidco Industrial Complex, Bari Brahmana, Jammu.
