JAMMU, Aug 13: Ayushman Jamwal, a Jammu boy who serves as a senior news editor at CNN-News18 has come with his latest poetry collection ‘Silent Sun’.
In one of his most celebrated songs, legendary rockstar Freddy Mercury once said that, “Outside the dawn is breaking, but inside in the darkness, I am aching to be free”. It aptly describes the human condition in the modern era, the constant and elusive search for meaning in the absence of the struggle for survival.
Through turmoil and happiness, all human beings want to achieve is the realization of their place, purpose and the contours of their soul. This pursuit is something Ayushman Jamwal vividly captures in his latest poetry collection ‘Silent Sun’, telling and re-telling the same struggle through different eyes of humanity.
Ayushman Jamwal’s first poetry collection ‘Chameleon Lights’ touched upon his journey of self-discovery. ‘Silent Sun’ elaborates more topical themes that have impacted the artist. From ‘May The Valley Hear Me Roar’, Ayushman’s tribute to India’s warriors who serve in the Kashmir valley, to ‘Am I Not God’s Child?’ an award-winning poem on the plight of Triple Talaq victims to ‘The Cursed Rockstar’, the writer’s homage to the inspirational singer- songwriter Chester Bennington of Linkin Park who passed away last year, the poems weave vibrant and diverse images of the pursuit of fulfillment which is both heroic and tragic, yet beautiful all the same.
‘Silent Sun’ will be launched at the Oxford Bookstore in Connaught place in Delhi on Sunday, August 19, and will be attended by a host of different poets and writers to celebrate the power of expression.
Ayushman’s writing draws from his experiences in the newsroom. “You get to see the best and worst of humanity and everything in between through the news. The black, white and grey – you experience all of it,” says Ayushman.
