BILLAWAR: Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker, Dr Nirmal Singh appealed to the people to participate in huge numbers in the forthcoming Panchayat elections of the State.
Addressing a series of public meetings here, Singh said elections are soul of the democracy and people’s participation only enriches it. He said elections are also like festival of democracy and like other festivals it should also be an occasion of celebrations.
The Speaker complimented the people for their participation in the Urban Local Bodies elections.
Dr Nirmal Singh held public meetings at Dadwara, Billawar and Koti, which were well attended by the people. He said Indian democracy is a shinning example of the writ of the people and it has been consistently strengthened with successive elections.
Speaker said massive development works have been initiated in the Billawar Constituency in the last four year. He said development works of about Rs 500 crore have been sanctioned in this constituency. He said some of them are near completion and some are being executed, which include widening of Sukarala-Billawar Road, double lanning of Billawar-Phinter Road, road construction under PMGSY worth Rs 109 crore and construction of indoor stadium.
Speaker also paid tributes Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 142nd birth anniversary. He said his momentous services and monumental contribution to India can never be forgotten.
Dr Nirmal Singh said nation can’t forget legacy of Sardar Patel in uniting the country geographically by merging erstwhile princely states.
