SFC Divisional Manager booked in graft case

Anti-Corruption Bureau Doda on Tuesday booked a Divisional Manager of State Forest Corporation (SFC) Udhampur in a graft case.
According to reports, Anti-Corruption Bureau Doda registered a case vide FIR No 05/19 under Section 5 (1) (d) read with 5 (2) and Section 4-A PC Act (Amendment 2014) against one Puran Chand Bhagat, son of Buti Ram, resident of R S Pura, Jammu, presently posted as the Divisional Manager in State Forest Corporation (SFC) Udhampur on basis of a written complaint lodged by Romesh Chander, son of late Amar Nath, resident of House No 100, Ward No 4 Court Road, Udhampur.
The complainant, in his complaint, stated that he is working as a contractor with the State Forest Corporation Division Udhampur for last about 20 years and has been allotted extraction, transportation, loading and unloading work by the Department in Compartment Nos. 45/76 of Dudu Range District Udhampur for last about two and half years. The complainant further stated that the payment of about 10 per cent is due to him against works done in aforesaid compartments and for release of aforesaid payment / preparation of documents, Puran Chand Bhagat was demanding an amount of Rs 48,000 as bribe from him.
The complainant further alleged that the Divisional Manager asked him to pay Rs 30,000 in advance and rest Rs 18,000 after release of payment. In view of compelling circumstances, the complainant agreed to pay Rs 30,000 as advance bribe to aforesaid officer on May 21, 2019 while remaining amount to the tune of Rs 18,000 after release of payment and preparation of documents.
Accordingly, a trap team under the command of Kartar Singh Kotwal DySP was constituted and a successful trap was laid against aforesaid officer. The officer was caught red handed while accepting illegal gratification of Rs 30,000 from complainant by ACB sleuths, in presence of independent witnesses in his office cum residence complex at Udhampur. The accused officer has been arrested and further investigation is going on in the case.
