University of Kashmir (KU) will witness the celebration of the arrival of spring in a unique way through art, music and debate.

The much-awaited ‘Sounth 2017’, a three-day art and literary festival, is all set to begin at the university tomorrow and the students are all excited for the event.

The university holds the annual festival every year on the arrival of spring but this time, the students are more energetic as the unrest last year had left them disturbed and kept the university closed for five months. “Last year, there were so many disturbances that we couldn’t enjoy anything but this event is surely going to be full of fun and entertainment. There will be a lot of drama and suspense,” said a student of Music and Fine Arts Department.

The event is also marking the start of the new academic session at the university where aspirants in large numbers throng the university to seek admissions. The festival every year provides an opportunity to hundreds of students to manifest their hidden talent and potential.

“After the unrest and harsh winter, the festival is a sign of new hope and beginning in the institution,” said an organiser of the event.

In the three-day event, students will showcase their skills in painting, poster-making, photography, collage-making, and debate, for which the topic is ‘Women make better politicians than men’. “We believe women do better in every field. They possess equal potential,” said Aymun Nafis, an undergraduate student.
